I don’t know if it’s normal for a person to have this much attachment to a city that they have never lived in. I called New York home growing up, watching any New York movies I can find, just daydreaming, picturing what my life would be like living in the Upper East or West Side— eight thousand five hundred ninety three miles away. New York City (Manhattan) felt like home than any place I had ever lived in and I can say it is better than what I imagined. Indeed, the beauty of New York is its diversity. It is one of the only places you can be shoulder-to-shoulder with someone working their way up the corporate ladder, workers of every skin and tie color lined up for street food, a musician trying to get their name out there or someone who just ended a double shift so he can pay for his $3,500- 300 sq ft apartment in Hell’s Kitchen— all at the same time. It is one of the places that potentially has more negatives than positives; bad weather, really expensive cost of living, dirty run down apartments, smelly subways...and yet, you still want to be there. As per Jason Pierre-Paul, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.” IT. IS. MY. FAVORITE.
